Thailand is popular as one of the cheapest, most fun vacation destinations in Asia — hip cafes, romantic restaurants, tailors, street food and affordable hotels. Now when it comes to shopping, of course we’d love to keep the prices low too!

Here are eight Thai phrases you should know to strike a good bargain. Remember, if you’re a male, add ‘khap’ to the end of your sentence, and ‘kha’ for female. Have fun!

  2. How much: Gee baht
  3. Where is: Yoo tee nai…?
  4. Cheaper please: Lot noi dai mai?
  5. Don’t want: Mai ow
  6. Sorry: Khor tort
  7. Thank you: Khop koon khap/kha
  8. Numbers 1-10: Neung, song, saam, see, haa, hook, jet, baat, gow, sip
