Done with Johor Bahru? Enough of all the awesome food and cheap movies? (Hmm, though we wonder how is that possible) No problem! We show you the quick way from Singapore to three alternative places in Malaysia to visit in 2018.
For fishing and seafood: Kukup
Kukup is a fishing village on stilts, and fisherman is the most popular occupation here. If you’re feeling lazy to plan your trip (which we all do, it’s our holiday after all!), many tour operators in Singapore offer 2D1N all-inclusive package tours that cost around $85/pax. It’s a cheap, fuss-free and apparently very reliable way to visit Kukup.
Head’s up! Note that amenities are not so advanced all around Kukup. (Read: kampung life)
Travel time from Singapore: Between 3 to 5 hours
Suggested days: 2 days 1 night
Transport options: Tour bus, ferry, driving (not advisable) – Check out directions here!
Things to do:
– Eat seafood all day every day
– Fishing
– Mahjong
– Staring out into the sea
– KTV
– Sunset
For food, food and more food: Malacca
Malacca has been crowned UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. Not a surprise, for Malacca is dotted with charming shophouses, ancient architectures and temples. Though admittedly, most Singaporeans visit Malacca for the food. Hello Jonker Walk — where there’s no shortage of mouthwatering local food such as chendol, noodles, pineapple tarts. Bring extra cash for shopping and bringing home lots of handmade trinkets!
Head’s up! If you’re driving in from Singapore – which is the most preferred mode of transport – there will be tons of sights to tempt you along the way. Schedule more days of travel if time is your friend.
Travel time from Singapore: 2.5 (driving) to 5 hours (bus)
Suggested days: 2 days 1 night
Transport options: Driving (preferred mode!), private taxi, bus, bus + train – We follow this to find our way!
Things to do:
– Food and shopping on Jonker Walk
– Kedai Kopi Chung Wah’s chicken rice balls
– Capitol satay celup
– Visit floating mosque – Melaka Straits Mosque
– Customise your own Mamee
For lepak and beachside chill: Kuala Terengganu
3 years ago, AirAsia announced its direct flights to Kuala Terengganu. All of a sudden, it is so easy and affordable to explore the depths of Malaysia! Now if you are the designated driver for road trips and want to take a break for once, suggest Kuala Terengganu!
Head’s up! Kuala Terengganu offers a blend of beach, places of interest and shopping. The once fishing village has kept its local charm pretty untouched. We suggest to extend your trip to 4 days to enjoy it all.
Travel time from Singapore: 2.5 (flight) to 9 hours (bus, driving)
Suggested days: 3 days 2 nights or 4 days 3 nights
Transport options: Flight (preferred mode!), driving, bus

– Pasar Payang – shopping and eating
