Taipei Cho Hotel or Finders? Here’s the lowdown.

Taiwan is one of those places where you should stay avoid staying in chain hotel. Not because they are expensive but because the boutique hotels offer so much more VALUE. From free snacks, supper, entertainment to stylish rooms with personalized welcome packages, your IG stories will be responded with never-ending “WHERE IS THIS HOTEL” from your envious friends. So, let’s zoom in to the two of Singaporeans’ favorite boutique hotels in Taipei; Cho Hotel and Finders Hotel – and no, they are not going to break your bank at just <SGD100/night 😉

P/S: Both hotels are about 5-10 minute walk to Ximending so you can save on those cab fare too!

#1. CHO HOTEL

Check-in and rooms:

Upon check-in, you’ll be given this nice little vintage package with your room key and postcards that you can bring home as souvenir. In fact, there’s a mailbox in the hotel lobby to make postage easy for you!

Rooms are clean but on the small side. We had 2x 28″ luggage and it’s almost impossible to have both open at the same time. It isn’t much of an issue for us since we didn’t shop much but heavy shoppers may have a small problem. But as the saying goes, if there’s a will, there will be a way #youcanalwaysusethebed #justsaying

Snacks:

Not an extensive selection but hey, you won’t be getting this in the hotels for free! From lollipops to cup noodles, there’s definitely something for you at any time of the day. My favorite is the wasabi broadbeans!

Location:

It’s not right smack in the middle of Ximending but we absolutely love the location. It’s surrounded by local eateries and our favorite is this little breakfast stall right next to the hotel. They sell amazing 蛋饼 and sandwiches – PLUS, Cho Hotel’s breakfast voucher can be redeemed there too 😉

Would we stay here again? Absolutely YES!

#2. FINDERS HOTEL

Check-in and rooms:

Similar to Cho Hotel, you’ll be given this quirky package (with your keys and complimentary postcards) upon check-in. Unlike Cho Hotel where the whole building = the hotel, Finders Hotel is just part of a building so you’ll be greeted by a security desk (for the building) when you enter the complex and you’ll have to check-in at the basement. Having said that, it wasn’t really a deal breaker because there were clear signages and the reception will take your breathe away. Think pool tables, dart games and endless of snacks.

Rooms are a LOT bigger than Cho Hotel so it would be a good place to stay on your last few nights where you can freely unpack your stuff!

Snacks:

It doesn’t matter if you are a night owl because snacks and cup noodles will be provided 24/7. There’s also plenty of entertainment (dart kiosks, pool tables and television) to keep you up the whole night. In fact, if you are up early enough, you can also help yourself to the fresh sandwiches! Love it.

Location:

Once again, it’s not in the middle of Xi Men Ding but it’s just a short 8-minute walk. Plus, Finders Hotel sits in the middle of Ximen and Taipei Main station so it’s a bonus if you have an early train ride at the Taipei Main station!

Would we stay here again? Absolutely YES!

If we must choose one between these 2, it’ll not be a simple decision because both hotels are amazing but have their unique shortcomings. Snacks aside (since both hotels offer free snacks), the decision may boil down to the size of rooms. If you need a slightly bigger room, we’ll recommend Finders Hotel. We tried to open both our 28″ luggage at Cho Hotel and it was indeed a challenge. BUT – if space isn’t an issue, I would say just go with Cho Hotel. You’ll love the short walk to Ximending, the cozy reception and the myriad of local eateries around it 😉

My parents think I travel too much but if not now, then when? New experiences excite me the most and that's why I rarely visit the same city twice unless (a) they have awesome food and (b) they have awesome food.
