Budget 3D2N Ho Chi Minh Itinerary (Under SGD300 per person)

When we think of short 3D2N getaways, we often think of Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Batam or even a short cruise to Malacca/Langkawi. Do you know that a 3D2N trip to Ho Chi Minh may not be more expensive than any of those mentioned above?

Let’s say you are setting aside SGD 300 for your escapade, here’s how you do it:

.

.

PART 1: AIR TICKETS

A quick search on Skyscanner would tell you that you can easily get a return ticket to Ho Chi Minh at just SGD 99. This can get even cheaper during their promotion period!

Oh, in case you aren’t aware, a flight to Ho Chi Minh takes just about 2 hours – which is significantly faster than a bus ride to Kuala Lumpur or even Malacca.

Damage so far: $99 per pax

.

PART 2: ACCOMMODATION

Guys, it’s not just the air tickets that’s cheap. Accommodation options are plenty and VERY affordable- especially if you have a travel companion to share the room with. GK Central is less than 100m away from Ben Thanh market and costs less than SGD 126 for 2 person for 2 nights. That works out to be just SGD 63 per person? I had my doubts at first but I decided to trust the TripAdvisor reviews and the rooms definitely didn’t disappoint.

PART 3: ACTIVITIES

For a 3D2N trip, you can try to squeeze two day trips into your itinerary if you are ambitious! For instance,

Day 1:
– Arrive in Ho Chi Minh
– Explore Benh Thanh Market
– Book day trips from nearby tour agencies
– Try Quynh Pho
– Do some shopping at Saigon Square

Day 2:
– Cu Chi Tunnels Tour
Try one of the famous Banh Mi
– Visit Notre Dame Cathedral
– Cross the street for the Post Office (it’s right opposite the cathedral)
– Visit Benh Thanh again for the night market

Day 3:
– Mekong River Tour
– Get ready to check out and return to Singapore!

If you purchase the tours from the tour agencies around Benh Thanh market, it should not cost you more than SGD 21 per person per tour.

Damage so far: $212 per pax
Flight – $99 per pax
Hotel – $63 per pax
Tours: $50 per pax

.

.

PART 4: EXPENSES

Food and transportation in Ho Chi Minh are very affordable. In fact, if you are adventurous enough to give the street stalls a shot, you can easily find a bowl of pho at just SGD 1. If not, SGD 2-3 should be able to fill you up.

Transportation-wise, there isn’t a subway system but the main attractions in District 1 are within walking distance from each other. Otherwise, a taxi ride shouldn’t cost you more than SGD 2 within District 1. 🙂

In a nutshell, you shouldn’t spend more than SGD 50 per person on food+transport for a 3D2N trip.

My parents think I travel too much but if not now, then when? New experiences excite me the most and that's why I rarely visit the same city twice unless (a) they have awesome food and (b) they have awesome food.
