World Latte Art at Ristr8to in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is brimming with coffee shops at every corner. At the hipster neighbourhood of Nimmanhaemin Road are little cafes, brunch spots and boutique hotels. Ristr8to LAB is located about 3 minutes walk from our hotel, so we visited it every single morning!

Our favourite spot? Under this big old tree surrounded by the airy cafe’s patio! Ristr8to is owned by an award-winning barista who has won first prize at the 2017 World Latte Art Championship in Budapest! His menu features all award-winning coffees and unique creations!

Who owns Ristr8to?

Owner and world-renowned barista Arnon Thitiprasert is born in South Thailand and has worked in cafes in Sydney. In 2011, he returned home to open his flagship Ristr8to ORIGINAL at Nimmanhemin Road, Chiang Mai, followed by Ristr8to LAB just five minutes away on the same hipster neighbourhood.

Mystical latte art creatures

My Japanese friend and I ordered the Satan Latte on our first visit to Ristr8to LAB. Because it is their World Award Winning latte and the chances are high that we’ll get a unicorn art. Or any mystical animal.

I got my unicorn, lucky me! And my friend had a pegasus. All around, the coffees are so visually pleasing and delicious 🙂

Did you know?

Arnon has won the Thailand National Latte Art Championship three years in a row! He is also the winning champ of the World Latte Art Championship in 2017. The Satan latte we’re having at Ristr8to is served in a competition size cup. It’s the real deal!

Double-wall skull glass is popular

For a more exciting, iconic cup, choose the Ficardie! Morning of day 2 and we went back, this time for Ficardie. When you visit, note that the coffees have different strength level. This is a 5/8 served in a skull double wall glass, and it did kick harder than the mild Satan latte!

Coffee with desserts? Yes please!

The caffeine can be paired with beautiful cakes by Wella’s, a cafe that is conjoined to Ristr8to LAB. We had the coconut pie and banana bread on two different days. Both are massively satisfying, especially with coffee.

But my favourite is the coconut pie, with fresh flesh of young soft coconut in custard and topped with whipped cream and macadamia nuts. Heaven!
